Stage dimming uses the power running through the lamp to the bulb and some lower power bulbs do simply not draw enough electricity to operate the 3rd stage. We suggest that if you find the dimming aspect of this lamp to be intermittent or flickery that you test your lamp with a Halogen bulb 40w or under to check whether it is a lamp fault or bulb incompatibility issues.
